Bringing a caravan out of storage: an exterior checklist

What to look over before towing a stored caravan again—and which jobs need a qualified professional.

Walk around before moving it

Check for new impact damage, animal activity, low tyres, staining, loose items and changes around seals. Do not tow until safety-critical concerns have been addressed.

Inspect roof-mounted items from the ground

Use a safe viewpoint to check for branches, leaves and obvious contamination around the solar panel and roof fittings. Do not climb onto the roof as part of a casual inspection.

Open exterior equipment carefully

In suitable weather, test the awning’s movement and inspect fabric condition. Clean and dry it before long-term storage resumes.

Arrange the right servicing

Tyres, brakes, bearings, gas, electrical systems, water ingress and structural issues require the appropriate inspection or trade expertise. An exterior clean is useful, but it is not a roadworthiness check.

Create a simple photo record

A set of dated exterior photos helps identify changes during the next storage period and gives service providers clearer information.
