Packed down a wet awning? Do this next
Sometimes rain wins. These steps reduce the chance of odour, staining and mildew after a wet pack-down.
Reopen it as soon as practical
A wet pack-down is sometimes unavoidable, but it should be temporary. Pick the next calm, suitable opportunity to open the awning fully.
Let air reach folds and edges
Extend and position the awning according to its instructions so trapped areas can dry. Check rolled edges, seams and lower pockets where water may remain.
Remove loose dirt gently
Mud and leaf fragments can hold moisture. Follow the fabric maker’s care directions and avoid strong household cleaners that may affect colour or waterproof coatings.
Inspect before rolling it away again
Look for odour, staining, seam stress and changes in water beading. Reproofing may help some suitable fabrics, but only after identification, cleaning, full drying and a patch test.
Do not force a windy setup
Drying is not worth an unsafe awning deployment. If conditions are unsuitable, wait or use a sheltered location permitted by the site operator.
